Physical Care

Dogs and cats age seven years for every one human year, so we strongly advise check-ups every six months. When seen on a regular basis we can screen your pet for many conditions that are more easily treated when caught early.

At each routine visit we provide you with the education needed to keep your pets healthy. As a team we can work together to ensure your pet remains a healthy part of your family for many years.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are performed based on risk assessment. We take into consideration your pet's lifestyle, age, and exposure to disease threats. The general philosophy is to vaccinate the least amount necessary to protect your pet.

The duration of immunity provided by vaccines against many viral diseases is at least three years. Do note, however, that vaccines which protect against bacterial diseases such as Lyme and Bordetella do need to be given on a more frequent basis.

Parasite Prevention

It is fairly common for a pet to become infected with an internal or external parasite at some point in its lifetime. Parasites can range from simple irritation to life-threatening conditions if left untreated.

Some parasites can infect and transmit diseases to people. Have your pet tested regularly (at least once a year) for parasites and administer year-round preventive medications to control parasites.

Weight Management

A common health problem for pets is obesity. They often suffer from joint pain, diabetes, breathing difficulties and immobility. Both quantity and quality of life suffers in obese pets.

Diet and exercise are the cornerstones of weight management. Our staff can help you calculate your pet's daily caloric needs and develop a diet and exercise program. Pets can come in at any time to track their weight on our scale in the waiting room.
